Camouflage

This giant anteater was photographed in the tropical house at the Cleveland Metroparks Zoo. Anteaters are notoriously shy creatures and are rarely seen in the wild since they are primarily active at night and are cryptically colored to blend into their surroundings. I was in the Pantanal flood plains of Brazil many years back with a friend who disappeared into the woods. Several hours later he returned and clained he had fallen asleep and woke up to find an anteater walking around him. I didn't believe him for several years until he showed me a picture of the anteater which he had luckily been able to photograph in the wild.
